Just to make sure I stay busy, I have also now been awarded funding from the Arts Trust of Scotland and the Creativitiworks fund from the University of Sunderland.

I intend to put the Arts Trust funding towards a new project which will be based on the Biological Sciences. More details to follow once I have arranged research partners, but this will hopefully take place in collaboration with researchers at the University of Edinburgh.

The Creativitiworks funding will allow me to attend the Dick Marquis masterclass at the International Festival of Glass in Stourbridge this summer. And I’m very excited about it too.

Craft Makers Award

More good news this month! I’ve been awarded a Craft Makers Award by Creative Scotland in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council.

The funding will allow me to develop and produce a new body of work, stemming from my previous pieces inspired by the Japanese tea ceremony. Really looking forward to getting back in the hotshop to make my own work. I will provide updates and news as I get going.

British Glass Biennale

I was thrilled to find out that my work has been accepted into the British Glass Biennale 2012, the ‘UK’s major exhibition of contemporary glass in association with the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers and the International Festival of Glass.’

The exhibition will be open from 24 August – 15 September 2012 with the awards evening on 23 August, at the Ruskin Glass Centre, Stourbridge, West Midlands.

CraftForms

My piece Atarashii Chado is currently being exhibited at CraftForms, at the Wayne Arts Center, Pennsylvania.

The exhibition is on from 2 December 2011 until 21 January 2012, open Monday-Saturday 10:00 – 17:00.

My work’s now been delivered to Norfolk and Gateshead for my upcoming exhibitions, including some new pieces which will be featured in Christmas Present. I have also been accepted into an exhibition in Philadelphia, US – more details of this soon.The Belfry Arts Centre exhibition in Norfolk opens this Friday 21st October, and Christmas Present starts on 18th November.

Creativitiworks

I have been accepted as a member of Cretivitiworks, a creative business unit, at the University of Sunderland.

Creativitiworks is managed by the Faculty of Arts, Design & Media, at the University of Sunderland, and allows new creative businesses to hot desk for up to 2 years. Facilities are free for the first 6 months and at a discounted rate thereafter. Creativitiworks offers: Business advice and support, a hot desk equipped with PC or Apple Mac, e-mail and internet access, telephone, desktop printing, photocopying and use of presentation / meeting room. Support is available through a team of business advisors and companies can also access external and University academics, agencies and networks, as well as University facilities and equipment at preferential rates.

Christmas Present, Shipley Art Gallery

From 16 November – 24 December 2011 my work will be exhibited in the Shipley Art Gallery’s Christmas Present selling exhibition, with the opening held on Wednesday 16 November.

The Shipley Art Gallery in Gateshead is the North East’s leading gallery of design and contemporary craft and this will be the 20th year it has held Christmas Present.

I am privileged to have been selected for this year’s exhibition as an artist selected by one of 12 craft experts from across the UK who have nominated a maker they recognise as producing outstanding work.

I am hoping to exhibit a mixture of existing and new work, which I will be working on in the near future.
