The Black Dog and the Butterflies
ArtistThis work combines glass with electronic components to represent emotions and experiences of the artist that are wholly or partly unseen by others.
The intricacies and inner details are revealed when they are illuminated or seen from different perspectives. The title references the artist's experiences of depression and anxiety and the pieces themselves are interpretations of these mental states; the black, blank, void-like form, lit with a persistent yet flickering centre; and the contrasting white form, through which the rapid 'breath' of light illuminates the oppresive inner markings.
